ABOUT US

I AM U Mentoring is dedicated to empowering at-risk youth to become self-aware of their potential so they can improve their opportunities for success. The non-profit provides mentoring opportunities to enhance academic outcomes, community connections, and career options through collaborative programming with schools and other community organizations. We focus on cultivating a progressive and balanced mindset by developing students' emotional intelligence, communication, and personal accountability so they become better versions of themselves.

Meet the founder

James Freeman, Executive Director and Founder of I AM U Mentoring, established the non-profit with the mission of collaborating with schools, families, agencies and local communities to provide mentors, resources, and support for black and brown middle and high school students from underserved areas. As a certified peer specialist, he has supported numerous youths suffering from depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and involvement with the youth criminal justice system.

At I AM U Mentoring, we value life lessons that are not taught in classrooms. Our skilled mentors leverage their life experiences to help build confidence and resilience which creates the emotional stability individuals need to succeed.
